How long have you been a marketing copy and content expert?

It all started in 1996 when I graduated from my undergrad and started working with Merrill Lynch as a specialist in the mortgage and credit area. My job was to educate financial advisors and their clients on the mortgage and credit products that Merrill offered at the time. I relished in the portions of my job that allowed me to work with the financial advisors in crafting messages that were compelling enough for a client to start the mortgage or credit process with the company. At the time, it was crafting messages to illustrate to clients why our mortgage products were better than any other, why refinancing their home was going to put them in a better financial situation or why consolidating their debt could be the key to their financial freedom.

The problem was that the long hours on the road as a road warrior, running around to my 16 different Merrill Lynch offices spread out across Southwest and Southeast South Florida was literally making me sick to my stomach. After some health issues that even the stomach doctor could only attribute to “stress,” I knew it was time to take a leap of faith into self-employment.

It was here that my marketing journey truly began because I was now the sole proprietor of a business that I was responsible for doing everything for, from crafting compelling marketing pieces to answering the phone and cleaning the office bathroom.

After I sold this business four years later, I ended up returning to corporate America, working in marketing for a commercial mortgage company and finally a real estate attorney and title company.

My entrepreneurial soul finally won out a few years later when I turned to my true passion in life and work, which is writing. I combined my love for writing with my marketing degree, experience and knowledge to help others craft the right marketing messages and content to attract clients to their own businesses.

In short, I have been working in marketing and writing for the past 14 years in some way, shape or form.

What is expected of me?

Creating content and the right marketing messages for your clients requires you to work closely with me on carrying out the marketing strategies and implementing the content we work together to create. While I may be the professional writer, you are the business owner and entrepreneur. I need you to provide me with the information I need to craft the most compelling marketing messages and the best content to boost your business. You have to be willing and able to use the marketing messages and content properly or all our hard work together is for nothing.

What type of businesses is this not going to work for?

Marketing is something that all businesses have to do whether big, small, with one person or thousands of employees. When used, even bad marketing is better than no marketing at all. That being said, if you are not willing to use the marketing advice, content and messages as suggested, then you are not going to reap the benefits of more clients and more money. If you are not one to do what you have to do to make your business successful, then my programs and products are not for you or your business.

What is the Action Marketing Copy System?

The Action Marketing Copy System is the guide, road map or directions, if you will, on how to craft copy and marketing messages that attract a stream of consistent clients to your business, attracts the right clients to your business and makes you more money. You can either learn the system and write your own copy or have me write the copy and content for you.

Attracting a consistent stream of the right clients to your business requires you to understand who your right clients are; the purpose of the marketing piece you are creating and how to create marketing messages and copy that compels your clients into action. Once you understand this, you have to take your own actions to implement the system. Here’s what the Action Marketing Copy System gets you to do:

1. Identify Your Clients

First, you have to know everything there is to know about the individual and group of customers you are creating the marketing message to reach. We work together to identify who the right clients are for your business, so you can learn to identify them, locate them and speak to them.

2. Focus on Your Marketing Purpose

Not only is your marketing message catered toward the clients you are trying to reach, but it may also be altered according to the type of marketing piece you are creating. In order to craft the right message for the right marketing vehicle, you have to determine the purpose for the piece. Are you trying to reach past clients that haven’t bought from you in some time by direct mail to reengage them in your business or are you asking clients to take a survey? When the purpose of your marketing piece changes, so does the content you use to send the right message.

3. Craft Your Attention Grabber

Whether it’s an email, letter in the mail or your business website, you have about 20 seconds or less to grab the attention of your prospective client. If you miss this opportunity, it may be a lost client opportunity that you never have the chance to regain. You have to learn how to create such compelling headlines, subject lines and opening content that they can’t help but to click open the message, open the envelope or read on to find out more.

4. Create a Compelling Message

Once you compel them to read more about what you have to say, then you have to deliver what you promised in the build-up with your headline, subject line or envelope teaser copy. Whether you are writing a promotional email or an article to share information with your clients and build credibility with them, if you leave them disappointed with the content, you are unlikely to gain their trust or be receptive of future marketing messages from you.

5. Package the Benefits

Slant and angle your messages and content so that it is all about them. When you shop for services, it’s all about you. When you’re selling your services, it’s all about your clients. You have to deliver copy that shows them how what you do benefits them rather than bore them with the features of your service.

6. Call on Them to Act

By the end, you have to have them so hooked that they want to act. Action can be to buy, to call you, to go to your website or a myriad of other options. You have to learn how to put actions into all of your marketing materials so that you simply tell your readers, prospects and clients what it is that you want them to do next. You are leading them to a sale.

7. Just Market It

Finally, whatever the piece is that you have created just has to get out there. You have to drop it in the mail, email it or just market it already. Sitting on your desk or in the draft folder of your inbox isn’t going to attract the right clients and make you money.

Does this system really work?

Absolutely. When you consistently inject the steps of the Action Marketing Copy System into your business, you will attract more of the right clients to your business and make more money.
